Luna 2 was a Soviet uncrewed spacecraft launched to the Moon as part of the Luna programme. It was the first spacecraft to touch the surface of the Moon and the first human-made object to make contact with another celestial body, following a direct path to the Moon and impacting its surface on September 13, 1959. It was built by OKB-1.
