Crew Dragon is the crewed variant of Dragon 2, a partially reusable spacecraft that the American company SpaceX designed, built, and operates for flights to the International Space Station and for other private spaceflight missions. Dragon 2 consists of a reusable space capsule and an expendable trunk module, and it comes in two variants: the four-person Crew Dragon and the uncrewed Cargo Dragon, which replaced SpaceX's earlier Dragon 1 cargo capsule. The spacecraft launches atop a Falcon 9 Block 5 rocket and the capsule returns to Earth by splashdown.
