A NASA probe launched in 2006 that performed the first close flyby of Pluto in July 2015, revealing an unexpectedly varied surface of nitrogen-ice plains and water-ice mountains. It went on to fly past the Kuiper Belt object Arrokoth in 2019, the most distant object ever explored up close.
