The ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter is a collaborative Mars orbiter mission between the European Space Agency and the Russian space agency Roscosmos, part of the European led ExoMars programme. It sent an atmospheric research orbiter and the Schiaparelli demonstration lander to Mars in 2016, with a key goal of better understanding methane and other trace gases in the Martian atmosphere that could be evidence of possible biological activity.
