Vega 1

Space Probe

Vega 1 was a Soviet space probe and part of the Vega program, developed from the earlier Venera spacecraft design by the Babakin Space Centre and built as a 5VK craft by Lavochkin at Khimki. Its name, VeGa, combines the first letters of the Russian words for Venus and Halley, reflecting its mission to both the planet Venus and Halley Comet.
