Space-Based Observatories

A European Space Agency X-ray space telescope launched in 1999 and named for Isaac Newton, carrying the largest mirrors ever built for X-ray astronomy at the time to achieve unusually high sensitivity. It has operated for decades studying black holes, neutron stars and hot gas in clusters of galaxies.
