The Russian Space Research Institute, known as IKI RAN, is the leading space exploration and fundamental science organization of the Russian Academy of Sciences, founded 15 May 1965 as the Space Research Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences and renamed following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1992. Headquartered in Moscow with about 289 scientists, it conducts research in astrophysics, planetary science, solar physics, Sun Earth relations, cosmic plasma and geophysics, and develops and tests space technologies in collaboration with Roscosmos.
