Valery Bykovsky

Valery Bykovsky was a Soviet cosmonaut who flew the Vostok 5 mission in June 1963, spending nearly five days in orbit, at the time the longest solo spaceflight ever completed. His mission overlapped in orbit with Vostok 6, flown by Valentina Tereshkova, marking the first time two crewed spacecraft carrying a man and a woman were in orbit at the same time. Bykovsky later flew two additional missions during the 1970s and 1980s, including an Interkosmos flight with an East German crewmate.
