Sylvia Acevedo

Sylvia Acevedo (born 1957) is an American engineer and executive who began her career as a systems engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where she worked on the Voyager 2 spacecraft's mission to the outer planets. After her time at JPL she moved into the technology industry, holding engineering and executive roles at companies including Apple, Dell and Autodesk, and co-founding the infiniband networking company REBA Technology. In 2018 Forbes named her to its list of America's Top 50 Women in Tech. From 2016 to 2020 Acevedo served as chief executive officer of Girl Scouts of the USA, where she led the organization's largest expansion of STEM-focused programming, introducing more than 100 new badges in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and outdoor skills within three years. Acevedo has often credited her early exposure to NASA's space program and her JPL work as formative influences on her later STEM education advocacy.
