A US National Radio Astronomy Observatory network of ten identical 25-meter radio dishes spread from Hawaii to the US Virgin Islands, their signals combined after the fact to synthesize a telescope effectively as large as the whole continent. Completed in 1993, it delivers among the sharpest angular resolution of any astronomical instrument ever built.
