A Japanese national telescope atop Mauna Kea in Hawaii, operated by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan since 1999, with a single 8.2-meter primary mirror among the largest monolithic mirrors ever built for astronomy. Its wide-field Hyper Suprime-Cam has been used for some of the largest galaxy-mapping surveys ever conducted.
