Egypt's principal astronomical observatory, about 80 kilometers from Cairo and operated by the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics. It houses a 1.88-meter reflecting telescope, the largest in the Arab world, the Middle East and North Africa, supporting the country's programs in optical and observational astronomy.
