Hungary's national astronomical observatory, founded in 1871 by the astronomer Miklos Konkoly-Thege on his private estate before being donated to the Hungarian state, and now headquartered in Budapest with mountain observing stations elsewhere in the country. It has long specialized in the study of variable stars.
