A US national solar observatory atop Haleakala on the Hawaiian island of Maui, completed in 2019 with a 4-meter primary mirror that makes it the largest and most powerful solar telescope in the world. Its first published images resolved solar surface features down to roughly 30 kilometers across, the finest detail ever seen on the Sun from the ground.
