An astrophysical research observatory in the hills of Arcetri near Florence, Italy, close to the villa where Galileo Galilei spent his final years. The observatory conducts theoretical and observational astronomy and builds instruments for major international telescopes, including the MMT, the Large Binocular Telescope, the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo, adaptive optics for the Very Large Telescope, and the Gornergrat Infrared Telescope.
