Chandrayaan-2 is the second lunar exploration mission developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation after Chandrayaan-1, consisting of a lunar orbiter, the Vikram lander and the Pragyan rover, all built in India. Launched July 22, 2019, its main scientific objective was to map lunar surface composition and the location and abundance of lunar water; the Vikram lander crashed during descent on September 6, 2019 due to a software error and trajectory deviation, though the orbiter continues to operate around the Moon.
