Glowing shells of gas thrown off by a dying Sun-like star late in its life, often ring-shaped or lobed around a hot white dwarf core. An object belongs here when its cited article calls it a planetary nebula. The name is historical and has nothing to do with planets. It excludes supernova remnants, which come from much more massive stars. Members are placed here from their own cited Wikipedia articles, each with a verbatim supporting quotation, so a reader can check why an entry sits in this group. The grouping forms part of the browse path for this section of the atlas.
