Elliptical Galaxies

Galaxies whose own Wikipedia articles cite a NED de Vaucouleurs classification of E with a numeric flattening index, for example E1 or E5, running from E0 (nearly circular) to E7 (highly flattened). This class shows a smooth, featureless, ellipsoidal light profile with no spiral arms, bar or disc structure, and little ongoing star formation compared to a spiral galaxy. It includes the supergiant cD subtype found at the centers of galaxy clusters, such as the source article for NGC 1275 at the heart of the Perseus Cluster, as each member's own citation states.
