The Wild Duck Cluster, catalogued as Messier 11, is an open star cluster in the constellation Scutum, discovered by the German astronomer Gottfried Kirch in 1681 and later included in Charles Messier's catalogue in 1764. Its popular name comes from the arrangement of its brighter stars into a triangle that has been likened to a flying flock of ducks, and it sits just east of the Scutum Star Cloud.
