Mintaka is a multiple star system, with at least five component stars, in the constellation Orion, carrying the designations Delta Orionis and 34 Orionis and lying about 1,200 light-years away. Together with Alnitak and Alnilam it forms Orion's Belt, and because it sits almost exactly on the celestial equator, it appears as the rightmost of the Belt's three stars when Orion is viewed near the meridian from the Northern Hemisphere.
