Messier 9, also known as M9 or NGC 6333, is a globular cluster in the constellation Ophiuchus, lying atop a dark cloud of dust catalogued as Barnard 64. It was discovered by Charles Messier on 3 June 1764, who described it only as a nebula without stars, and individual stars within it were first resolved by William Herschel in 1783.
