Messier 84, also known as M84 or NGC 4374, is a lenticular galaxy in the constellation Virgo and a member of the Virgo Cluster, discovered by Charles Messier in 1781. It lies roughly 60 million light-years from Earth, sits near the center of the cluster along the densely populated chain of galaxies known as Markarian's Chain, and hosts a central supermassive black hole with jets of radio-emitting material extending from its nucleus.
