Messier 67, also known as M67 or NGC 2682, is an open cluster of stars in the constellation Cancer, discovered by the German astronomer Johann Gottfried Koehler in 1779. It is one of the oldest open clusters known, with age estimates ranging from roughly 3.2 to 5 billion years, and lies about 2,600 to 2,900 light-years from Earth, making it a frequent subject of study for stellar evolution because its many member stars formed together and have since aged in place.
