Messier 65, also known as M65 or NGC 3623, is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Leo, discovered by the French astronomer Pierre Mechain in 1780. It forms the Leo Triplet together with the neighboring galaxies Messier 66 and NGC 3628, lies roughly 35 million light-years from Earth, and shows relatively little active star formation despite its otherwise well-defined spiral structure.
