Messier 60, also known as M60 or NGC 4649, is an elliptical galaxy in the constellation Virgo and one of the largest members of the Virgo Cluster, discovered by Johann Gottfried Koehler in 1779. It lies roughly 55 million light-years from Earth, hosts a central supermassive black hole estimated at more than four billion solar masses, and appears in the sky close to the smaller spiral galaxy NGC 4647, with which it forms an interacting pair.
