Messier 56, also known as M56 or NGC 6779, is a globular cluster of stars in the constellation Lyra, discovered by Charles Messier in 1779. It lies about 32,900 light-years from Earth and is a comparatively loose, sparse example of a globular cluster, situated roughly midway between the bright stars Albireo and Sulafat.
