Messier 19, also known as M19 or NGC 6273, is a globular cluster in the constellation Ophiuchus, discovered by Charles Messier on 5 June 1764. William Herschel resolved it into individual stars in 1784, and his son John Herschel later described it as a superb cluster resolvable into countless stars; through a 10-inch telescope it shows an oval core roughly three by four arcminutes across surrounded by a larger halo.
