Messier 105, also known as M105 or NGC 3379, is an elliptical galaxy in the constellation Leo, discovered by Pierre Mechain in 1781 but not added to Charles Messier's published catalogue in his own lifetime; the French astronomer Camille Flammarion identified Mechain's notes and formally added it to the Messier catalogue in 1947. It lies roughly 32 million light-years from Earth, is the brightest member of the M96 Group, and hosts a central supermassive black hole whose mass has been measured from the motion of stars near its nucleus.
