Messier 100, also known as M100 or NGC 4321, is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Coma Berenices and a member of the Virgo Cluster, discovered by Pierre Mechain in 1781. It lies roughly 55 million light-years from Earth and is one of the brightest galaxies in the Virgo Cluster, showing well-defined, symmetric spiral arms and having hosted several observed supernovae.
