The Dumbbell Nebula, catalogued as Messier 27, is a planetary nebula in the constellation Vulpecula at a distance of about 1,360 light-years. It was the first planetary nebula ever discovered, found by Charles Messier in 1764, and at a visual magnitude of 7.5 and a diameter of about 8 arcminutes it is easily seen in binoculars, making it a popular target for amateur telescopes.
