Caldwell 26, also known as the Silver Needle Galaxy or NGC 4244, is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici seen almost exactly edge-on, discovered by William Herschel in 1787. It lies roughly 7.5 to 14 million light-years from Earth and presents an unusually thin, needle-like profile due to a low-surface-brightness disk with only a faint central bulge.
