Caldwell 19, also known as the Cocoon Nebula or IC 5146, is a nebula in the constellation Cygnus combining glowing emission gas, dust that reflects starlight, and dark obscuring material, discovered by the German astronomer Thomas Espin in 1899. It surrounds a young open star cluster still in the process of forming and lies roughly 2,400 to 4,000 light-years from Earth.
