Caldwell 17, also known as NGC 147, is a dwarf elliptical galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia, discovered by the British astronomer John Herschel in 1829. It is a satellite galaxy of the much larger Andromeda Galaxy and lies roughly 2.4 million light-years from Earth, forming a close visual and physical pair on the sky with the similar dwarf galaxy NGC 185, Caldwell 18.
