Achernar is the brightest star in the constellation of Eridanus and the ninth-brightest star in the night sky, carrying the Bayer designation Alpha Eridani. It forms a binary system, located about 139 light-years from Earth, with a bright blue primary about six to seven times the mass of the Sun and a secondary companion of roughly twice the Sun's mass.
