The U R Rao Satellite Centre is the Indian Space Research Organisation own centre for designing, developing and building Indian satellites, located in Bengaluru, Karnataka. It was founded on 11 May 1972 as the Indian Scientific Satellite Project and was known as the ISRO Satellite Centre until it was renamed in 2018 to honor its founding director, former ISRO chairman Udupi Ramachandra Rao. The centre has built satellites across India own INSAT communications, IRS remote sensing and GSAT series, launching its hundredth satellite in January 2018, and it oversees the Laboratory for Electro Optics Systems and the ISRO Satellite Integration and Testing Establishment.
