The Spanish Astrobiology Center (Centro de Astrobiologia, CAB) is a state-run Spanish research institute dedicated to astrobiology, established on 19 November 1999 by founder Juan Perez-Mercader. It operates jointly under the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), is headquartered in Madrid, and maintains an affiliation with NASA astrobiology research. Its work pursues understanding life as a consequence of the evolution of matter and energy in the universe, studying the origin of life alongside broader astrobiology questions.
