Space Services Inc.

Space Services, Inc. of America is a space services company and holding company whose primary subsidiary, Celestis, conducts space burials, alongside other activities including an unofficial star registry. It buys secondary payload space on third party commercial rockets today, but in the 1980s it conducted test flights of its own rockets: in 1982 its Conestoga I rocket became the first privately funded rocket to reach space, while in October 1995 its only attempt at an orbital launch, Conestoga 1620, failed to reach orbit due to a guidance system failure 46 seconds into flight, after which parent company EER Systems folded and the Conestoga program was cancelled.
