South African National Space Agency

The South African National Space Agency, known as SANSA, is the government agency of South Africa responsible for promoting and developing aeronautics, aerospace and space research. It fosters cooperation in space related activities and research, seeks to advance scientific engineering through human capital and the peaceful use of outer space, and supports development of the space technology industry within the framework of national government. SANSA was established on 9 December 2010 by the National Space Agency Act, and its main focus areas include using satellite and other remote sensing data to assess flooding, fires, resource management and environmental phenomena across South Africa and the African continent.
