SETI Institute

The SETI Institute is a nonprofit research organization founded in 1984 and based in Mountain View, California, dedicated to studying the origin, nature and prevalence of life in the universe, work that gives the institute its name (the search for extraterrestrial intelligence). The organization is built around three divisions, the Carl Sagan Center for astrobiology research, the Center for Education and the Center for Public Outreach, and employs more than 100 researchers working on questions ranging from the origins of life on Earth to its possible existence elsewhere in the cosmos.
