Sea Launch was a multinational orbital launch company established in 1995 by Norway, Russia, Ukraine and the United States, providing commercial launch services from 1999 to 2014. Rockets were assembled aboard a command ship based in Long Beach, California, then carried to a floating launch platform positioned on the equator in the Pacific Ocean, letting the venture use Earth's rotational speed at the equator to boost payload capacity beyond what land-based sites could offer.
