The National Atmospheric Research Laboratory, known as NARL, is an autonomous research institute funded by India Department of Space, located in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. It was established in 1992 as the National Mesosphere-Stratosphere-Troposphere Radar Facility and was renamed to its current name on 22 September 2005 as its scope broadened beyond the original radar facility to include lidar systems, wind profilers, rain gauges and weather stations. NARL conducts fundamental and applied research in atmospheric sciences as part of India space research infrastructure.
