The Martin Marietta Corporation was an American aerospace and defense company formed in 1961 through the merger of the Glenn L. Martin Company and the American-Marietta Corporation, headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland. It built the Titan family of rockets, the Atlas I and II launch vehicles, and the Space Shuttle's external tank, and it built the Magellan, Viking 1 and 2, Mars Polar Lander and Wind spacecraft for NASA. Martin Marietta merged with the Lockheed Corporation in 1995 to form Lockheed Martin.
