Hakuto was a Japanese-led team, formed in early 2008 and named after the white rabbit of Japanese mythology, that competed in the Google Lunar X Prize to build a robotic Moon rover. Its rover technology grew out of more than a decade of research at Professor Kazuya Yoshida's laboratory in Tohoku University's Department of Aerospace Engineering, and the team partnered at different stages with the Astrobotic and TeamIndus lunar lander efforts for a ride to the Moon. When the Google Lunar X Prize ended in 2018 with no team having launched, Hakuto's organization went on to become the company ispace.
