The European Space Research Institute, also known as the ESA Centre for Earth Observation and abbreviated ESRIN, is a research centre belonging to the European Space Agency, located in Frascati near Rome, Italy. It is dedicated to research involving earth observation data taken from satellites and other specialised activities, and it hosts ESA development operations for the Vega launcher program. It traces to 1966, when it was established as ESLAR.
