Avco Corporation

Avco Corporation was an American aerospace and defense company that grew into a diversified conglomerate, originating on March 2, 1929, as the Aviation Corporation, formed in Wilmington, Delaware to prevent a hostile takeover of the Embry-Riddle Company. During the Second World War the company ranked 32nd among United States corporations by the value of its wartime production contracts. Textron acquired Avco Corporation in 1984, the same year Avco sold its farm machinery division to White Farm Equipment, and the company was folded into Textron operations. Avco now survives as part of Textron Systems Corporation, alongside Textron Lycoming Engines division.
