Australian Space Research Institute

The Australian Space Research Institute was an Australian charity focused on developing Australian space launch capability and promoting space science education, formed on June 17, 1991 in Jamboree Heights, Queensland, through the merger of the AUSROC Launch Vehicle Development Group at Monash University and the Australian Space Engineering Research Association. The institute pursued the AUSROC program of liquid fueled rockets beginning with the first AUSROC I launch in 1989 and continuing through the AUSROC II, 2.5, III, IV and Nano designs intended to eventually place small satellites into low Earth orbit, and from 1996 it also ran a twice yearly Small Sounding Rocket educational launch program from Woomera; the organization voluntarily wound up and lost its charity status on July 7, 2023.
