Loosely bound groups of up to a few thousand stars that formed together from the same molecular cloud and lie in the disc of the Milky Way. An object belongs here when its cited article calls it an open cluster. It excludes globular clusters, which are denser, older and orbit in the halo. Members are placed here from their own cited Wikipedia articles, each with a verbatim supporting quotation, so a reader can check why an entry sits in this group. The grouping forms part of the browse path for this section of the atlas.
