Messier 47

Star Clusters

Messier 47, also known as NGC 2478, is an open cluster of stars in the constellation Puppis. It was discovered by the Italian astronomer Giovanni Battista Hodierna before 1654 and independently rediscovered by Charles Messier in 1771 and by Caroline Herschel.
