Austrian-German aerospace engineer whose theoretical work on rocket propulsion and high-speed flight, including the Silbervogel antipodal bomber and spaceplane concept developed with Irene Bredt, influenced later spaceplane and hypersonic vehicle designs. He became the first president of the International Astronautical Federation in 1952 and continued research into ramjet and photon propulsion after the war.
