Venera 4 was a probe in the Soviet Union Venera program for the exploration of Venus, comprising a lander designed to enter the Venusian atmosphere and parachute toward the surface, and a carrier and flyby spacecraft that ferried the lander to Venus and relayed its communications. It was launched in 1967 as one of the earlier missions of the Venera program, which would go on to achieve several firsts in the exploration of Venus over the following two decades.
